We, the undersigned, request that the Asheville City Schools Board of Education pause the decision-making process about the possible consolidation of middle schools until a 5-year strategic plan is in place. Additionally, we request a series of town hall meetings be held to engage staff, students, families and other stakeholders in an intentional, inclusive manner.

(The Asheville City Schools Board of Education vote that could result in middle school reconfiguration and the closure of Montford North Star is scheduled for 3/11/2024.)

Asheville City Schools has been operating without a strategic plan since 2020. 

We ask that the reconfiguration of the middle schools be taken off the table until: 

1. A 5-year Strategic Plan has been created (the last one expired in 2020).

2. Town hall meetings have been held for stakeholders to review data, ask questions and get answers.
