Stop the Royals Stadium construction in Overland Park

Stop the Royals Stadium construction in Overland Park
The Issue
The proposal to construct a new Royals Stadium on 119th and Nall in Overland Park, KS, has brought concerns to an otherwise well-functioning community. Residents of Overland Park face potential challenges in to day to day life such as the worsening of an already struggling transit system and potential fiscal burdens.
The construction of such a massive stadium in a suburban area will cause a considerable increase in traffic congestion, and will indisputably lead to more accidents and hazardous conditions for residents and commuters. The size and scope of this stadium are incompatible with the surrounding area which is largely made up of family homes, schools, and small businesses. The traffic in the area the stadium is being considered to be built in is already terrible, with rush hours being miserable for commuters.
Another alarming concerns is the stadium's proximity to local hospitals, being less than 2 miles from Menorah Medical Center. With its proposed location, it poses a potential health risk by disrupting critical routes for ambulances and emergency response vehicles, potentially delaying life-saving treatment in emergencies.
Furthermore, the construction will undeniably affect property values in the surrounding areas. The stadium may deter prospective homebuyers, reducing the attractiveness of the community. Along with this, residents of Overland Park will face decreased values on their homes and properties, posing a challenge to those who wish to move.
Finally, the construction of the Royals stadium poses a potential fiscal burden on residents who may face higher taxes in order to pay for the stadium if it is decided that it will be tax-funded.
While it's understandable that the Kansas City Royals will benefit from a new stadium, placing it in Overland Park is not the correct answer. We urge local officials to reconsider this location and explore alternative sites, ones in more metropolitan area which could benefit from a stadium/attraction and where the impact on residential life and essential services is minimized.
