Tweet @Sainsburys http://bit.ly/1Ou0c4L and pressure them to make a firm food waste commitment, ready for our meeting on Tuesday! Happy new year! The Stop the Rot team has been away for the holidays, but we're now back in action - tomorrow we're meeting with Sainsbury's, and we need you to keep up the pressure for them to agree to tackle the mountains of food waste in their supply chains. When we arrived at Sainsbury's headquarters towards the end of last year to hand in your voices calling for an end to food waste, they barred us from even handing in the petition, hiring police and security guards to stop us. However, then we had a breakthrough and they agreed to meet us. Tomorrow, we'll be meeting Sainsbury's to present your 198,000 strong call on them to act on food waste. We'll be pressuring them to make the data on food waste in their supply chains public so the problem's no longer hidden from view, and commit to ambitious targets to reduce this waste. Sainsbury's have already made some progress to reducing their food waste, but their efforts have focused on reducing their customer's household food waste (Sainsbury's Food Rescue) and redistributing food waste from their stores to food charity FareShare and burning food waste to make energy. They have made less commitments to tackle the huge food waste in their supply chains, and to use that waste in better ways than burning it. They've made some good steps, but need to go further! Help us put pressure on Sainsbury’s ahead of this meeting, so they know the public wants them to act - together we can end food waste! Here’s an example tweet, or write your own using #stoptherot @Sainsburys: http://bit.ly/1Ou0c4L Keep up the pressure, and we'll have lots more exciting updates in the next few weeks!
