Hello Stop the Rot supporters,
What a rollercoaster of a week!
Over the past week, our petition has surged from 40,000 to over 177,000 supporters. Please keep sharing the petition with your friends, and let's see if we can get it to 200,000!
We've also had some good news - supermarkets are beginning to bow to pressure on food waste:
Asda have recently announced that they'll be extending their wonky fruit and veg "Beautiful on the Inside" range. Great to see that this is being extended, and the success of the range only goes to show that consumers aren't as fussy as the supermarkets make out, so we hope that Asda and the other supermarkets will extend this relaxation of cosmetic standards even further! However, this is currently only for 25 stores and certain products, so it needs to go far further! That's why 30% reduction targets and transparency are so important, to ensure we don't just get tokenistic moves, but ones that go to the heart of the problem. But a step in the right direction - people power is beginning to work, let's keep fighting! - http://ow.ly/UpHmU
And Morrisons relaxed their cosmetic standards of pumpkins for Halloween, though as we've seen from Hugh's programme, they have a long way to go!: http://ow.ly/UpGH0
It's only with public pressure that this has been possible - the tide is beginning to turn!
Push Asda to go further – just tweet @Asda using the hashtag #stoptherot, and let’s create a Twitterstorm! Here’s some example tweets below:
@Asda Congrats 4 extending #wonkyveg range! Now commit to reduce your supply chain #foodwaste by 30% too #stoptherot change.org/stoptherot
or
@Asda Congrats 4extending #wonkyveg range! Now extend it to more stores&products+publish #foodwaste data #stoptherot change.org/stoptherot
We're also planning an exciting stunt soon, so watch this space!
Over and sprout,
