The Issue
To: The Secretary of the Interior and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Every day, the incredible biodiversity of our planet faces unprecedented threats from climate change and habitat destruction. Yet, instead of strengthening protections, crucial safeguards under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) are being weakened and dismantled.
Vital protections have been stripped or delayed for some of our most iconic and imperiled species, including:
Wolverines and Polar bears losing critical snow and ice habitats.
Sea turtles and Rice's whales facing increased threats in our oceans.
Monarch butterflies, Bison, Florida panthers, Alligator snapping turtles, and Saltmarsh sparrows losing the legal shields that keep them from the brink of extinction.
Prioritizing short-term economic gains and corporate interests over the survival of entire species is a irreversible mistake. Once these animals are gone, they are gone forever. The balance of our entire ecosystem hangs in the balance.
