Stop the Roadrunner Gas Station at North and Garland!

The Issue

We the citizens and residents of Fayetteville, Arkansas, are challenging a decision made by our city officials to allow the development of a new gas station at the corner of North Street, Garland Avenue, Lindell Avenue, and Mt. Comfort Road.

The City has approved a grading permit for the Roadrunner gas station, but we believe this decision doesn't align with our city's commitment to maintaining its scenic character and ensuring public safety.

Here are just some of the reasons why:

Traffic and Safety Concerns: The proposed gas station design includes several variances that could lead to dangerous traffic conditions. It’s not just about the gas station – it’s about how this development affects the overall safety and walkability of our neighborhood, especially considering the upcoming multi-use trail on North Street. That intersection is already one of the most dangerous places for pedestrians and cyclists; a large gas station would make that even worse.

It's a Missed Opportunity for Better Development: We need developments that contribute positively to our neighborhood, especially in such a visible and crucial area near the University of Arkansas. This site could be used for something more beneficial to the community, like desperately needed housing, rather than another gas station, especially since there are already two gas stations within a few hundred feet of that site.

The public's reaction to this proposal has been overwhelmingly negative. We’ve seen concerns raised on social media and local news platforms, highlighting our community's desire for development that adds real value to our neighborhood.

Our Appeal Strategy:

Instead of challenging the permit directly, we’re asking our City Council members to reconsider the variance granted to the gas station project. This variance led to the approval of the grading permit, and we believe the Planning Commission made a mistake in granting it.

We’re asking our council members to support our appeal and deny the permit for this gas station. We believe that this development is not the best use of the land and goes against our city’s goals for a walkable, safe, and attractive environment.

We're standing up for a Fayetteville that values safety, sustainability, and thoughtful urban planning. We hope you’ll support us in this appeal and help us ensure that our city grows in a way that benefits all of us. Let's work together for a better, more walkable, and safer Fayetteville!
