Dear Neighbors,

Next Monday, January 23rd, the Pleasant Valley Town Board will decide whether or not to accept a developer’s request to rezone Highline Farm and the Tooker homestead  on the north side of Wigsten Road.

The developer envisions a replica of Eastdale, the urban apartment complex on Route 44 in the Town of Poughkeepsie.  At present, apartment buildings are prohibited outside of Pleasant Valley’s hamlet residential districts.

Traditional family homes on Wigsten Road, including a residence that is eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, are currently part of a gateway between dwellings that surround the hamlet, and the town’s picturesque rural agricultural district.

When will it stop?

Make no mistake: as it becomes blatantly possible for developers to transform Pleasant Valley’s vast open spaces into urban housing developments, our town will risk becoming just another “used to be beautiful” place.

If the Town Board votes to accept the application to rezone, the Planning Board will conduct an environmental impact review. Residents will have an opportunity to comment at the end; however, they will not be able to substantially alter the outcome.

It is your right to be heard and the Board’s obligation to hear your side on what is right for the Town of Pleasant Valley.  Seize the opportunity to make your views count next Monday, January 23rd.
