Stop the rezoning of parcel 24.028.1500 on 7th Ave NW and 5th Ave NW.

Stop the rezoning of parcel 24.028.1500 on 7th Ave NW and 5th Ave NW.
The Issue
We, the residents of Kasson, Minnesota are concerned with the rezoning of parcel 24.028.1500 from low density (single family) residential area to a combination of low density, medium density and multi-family residential area.
This re-zoning will allow the development of a total of 108 affordable townhome and duplex rentals along with 13 single family houses in a 29-acre lot. This purposed development is a mirror image to a purposed development on the Northeast side of town which was withdrawn due to poor city and developer planning. This proposed development would be on a small acreage and include more buildings than the purposed Northeast development. The developer is the same developer from the purposed development on the northeast side of town.
This development would extend off 7th Ave NW and 5th Ave NW. The proposed plans can be found on the city website at www.cityofkasson.com Some of our concerns with the proposed development include:
- Accessibility to neighborhood and purposed development
- Increased traffic
- Decreased home value
- Impact on home resales
- Strain on school capacities and resources
- Increased tax burden on property owners
-Strain on public services including EMS services, firefighters, and police. Dodge County EMS services is at risk due to insufficient funding. The Police department is low on staff due to low retention and salary. No full-time firefighters in City of Kasson.
- Strain on public infrastructure
We encourage your support and participation in this week’s City of Kasson Planning Commission Meeting to prevent this change in zoning. If you are available December 9th and have concerns or opinions on the proposed development, please join us at the city council meeting at 6:30 PM or sign this petition to show your support.
Please sign this petition if you believe that Kasson parcels 24.028.1500 should remain low-density residential areas where families can thrive without worrying about excessive traffic or declining property values. Everyone in your household, 18 or older, can sign.
