Stop the Rezoning at 1741 Haywood Road

The Issue

I have called Hendersonville home for many years, and like many of my fellow residents, I cherish the distinct charm and aesthetic of our community. The proposed development by Advenir Azora Development LLC to build 180 residential units at 1741 Haywood Road (the LEO Development / Cottages at Hendersonville) threatens to erode this character drastically. The project aims to rezone the area from R-15 to PRD CZD, a transformation that is not only unwelcome to neighborhood residents but also poses significant risks and challenges to our community.

Hendersonville's infrastructure is not equipped to handle the dramatic increase in traffic that 180 new residences would bring. With only one planned entrance connecting to a two-lane road, the risk of congestion and accidents will inevitably rise, creating daily headaches for both current and new residents. In general, for emergency medical services (EMS), neighborhoods and developments should have at least two points of access. This ensures that if one road is blocked or compromised, emergency responders can still reach the area.

This increase in traffic would stretch our infrastructure to its limits, reducing the quality of life in an area known for its peace and tranquility. The single entrance alone is cause for concern in the event of an emergency at the wrong time (such as snow, ice, or another tropical storm).

Most importantly, this proposal seems to disregard the wishes of the very community that will be most affected by it. The City Council and the Mayor must prioritize the voice of current residents over corporate interests, acknowledging the extensive opposition and concerns held by the people.

To maintain the integrity and character of Hendersonville, we urge you to reject the rezoning proposal and halt the construction plans put forth by Advenir Azora Development LLC. By signing this petition, you stand in solidarity with your fellow residents in advocating for responsible growth that respects our community's needs and desires. Let us work together to protect the Hendersonville we love. Please sign this petition to make our collective voice heard.
