Stop the retrial of Michael Jackson Bolanos and release him from incarceration

The Issue

Michael Jackson Bolanos has been wrongfully accused of and arrested for the murder of the prominent Jewish president of the Downtown Detroit Synagogue, Samantha Woll. Mr. Jackson Bolanos was charged with 1) Felony Murder 2) Premeditated Murder- 1st Degree 3) Home Invasion and 4) Concealing Facts or Misleading the Police.

Ms. Woll's ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Herbstman, admitted to murdering her and later recanted his admission stating that he was under the influence of a mixture of prescribed medication and marijuana. In a bizarre twist, during the trial Jeffrey Herbstman was granted immunity by the Wayne County Prosecutor's office in exchange for him testifying about the admissions that he made regarding Ms. Woll's murder.

The trial of Mr. Jackson Bolanos consisted of several witnesses from various task-forces including the FBI, Michigan State Police, the Detroit Police Department and numerous civilian witnesses.

After 5 weeks of trial and 5 days of jury deliberation the verdict rendered by the jury was 1) Felony Murder-deadlocked 2) Premeditated Murder-1st Degree- Not Guilty 3) Home Invasion- deadlocked 4) Concealing Facts or Misleading the Police- Guilty. Mr. Jackson Bolanos still remains incarcerated in the Wayne County Jail at this time.

Currently, the Wayne County Prosecutor's office is weighing their options as far as whether or not to retry Mr. Jackson Bolanos on the deadlocked counts, 1 & 3.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's office failed to meet their burden of proof in the trial against Mr. Jackson Bolanos. From the inception of this case authorities did not conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of Ms. Woll. For example Jeffrey Herbstman, who admitted to murdering Samantha Woll and later recanted, was never scrutinized as to his person, belongings or alibi on the night in question so as to be properly cleared as a suspect.

This poor and hastily conducted investigation along with the unorthodox decision to grant immunity to Jeffrey Herbstman in exchange for his testimony are just a few ways in which this entire trial has went awry. Fraught with both corruption and conspiracies, a retrial of this case is an unjust burden upon Mr. Jackson Bolanos who has maintained his innocence despite being condemned to incarceration during the entirety of this process.

We ask you to stand in support of Mr. Jackson Bolanos by the signing of this petition. We ask that you hold the Wayne County Prosecutor's office accountable for their failure to require law enforcement to adequately investigate Jeffrey Herbstman and instead upping the ante by granting him immunity. We ask that you help us demand the prosecutor's office to dismiss the remaining charges against Mr. Jackson Bolanos and call for his immediate release from incarceration.
