Stop the Restrictive Dress Code

Stop the Restrictive Dress Code
The Issue
Imagine, walking down the hallway on your way to class, wearing the outfit you bought at the mall during the summer, and you get stopped by school staff, get written up, and sent to ISS if you don't have a change of clothes. The outfit in question? Leggings with an oversized shirt you brought cover up if the school deemed the leggings "out of dress code", yet the school dress coded you for both.
During the 2023 School Year, LCISD (Lamar Consolidated Independent School District) has instructed its high schools to enforce the school dress code in the Student Handbook to an oppressive degree. This enforcement effectively bans hats, caps, headbands, "oversized shirts and pants", leggings, crop tops, tank tops, and even Crocs. People who wore these items and have been dress coded weren't distracting anyone, causing a disturbance, or offending anyone, they were just high school kids who wanted to wear things that made them comfortable.
Countless people have been dress coded for minor infractions, sent to ISS, and have write ups that could affect their academic standing and exemptions. Students who feel comfortable in the clothes they wear are losing a vital way to express themselves because the district is has started to overreach what defines "out of dress code".
However, it doesn't have to be this way. By signing this petition you are helping contributing to the fight to push back against LCISD's invasive Student Handbook. With a large enough signing, the LCISD School Board will have recognize and respond to the issue that is now negatively affecting all of their students. Join the fight for student rights!
