Stop the renovation of Kopachuck State Park

Stop the renovation of Kopachuck State Park

The Issue

Kopachuck State Park is loved by many as a way to get out in nature and enjoy the water. It is used by many as a place of relaxation, or as a place to explore what little wilderness is left in Gig Harbor. This renovation includes the clear-cutting of trees (some of which must be removed due to infection of root rot), It includes creating a new visitor center, as well as a playground. This is damaging to our environment as it involves the removal of nature to make it more “people friendly”, when in reality it is people friendly, the trails just need to be better taken care of. In recent years we have seen the numbers of visitors rise since the loss of the campground in 2014.

The park needs revamping but not on the scale they plan to do it on. Attached are links that describe their plans and the time span.

Fight to keep nature natural, encourage them to replant the trees that have been clear cut as well as making the walkways more accessible, revamp the bathroom, and make the campground accessible once again.
