Petition updateSTOP the Renaming of Dundas in TorontoChris Moise plays the race card again!

Petitioners,

In yet another example of callous disregard for his constituents, the architect of the Dundas renaming, Councillor Chris Moise was caught on tape defaming Daniel Tate, one of the co-authors of this petition.

On January 16th, at a budget town hall held at City Hall, Mr. Tate pressed Councillor Moise about the potential for future renaming of streets—aware of an internal document circulating City Hall that identifies additional colonial-era street names under consideration for removal. This inquiry comes at a time when city spending is spiralling out of control, with residents facing a cumulative 23.4% tax increase since 2023.

Instead of addressing the concerns, Councillor Moise accused Mr. Tate of harbouring “white supremacy” views and falsely maligned Mr. Tate as a white supremacist. These statements were not only baseless but an intentional effort to malign the reputation of a concerned citizen. Understandably, Mr. Tate was deeply hurt by these damaging accusations.

Mr. Tate has been an active and engaged citizen, presenting a well-researched deputation to the Executive Committee in June 2024, backed by a petition signed by over 30,000 residents. Never did he imagine that his commitment to civic engagement would result in personal attacks from an elected official who seems unwilling to engage in thoughtful discourse with those holding differing perspectives.

Over the past several months, Councillor Moise has repeatedly accused Mr. Tate and others of racism, harassment, and now white supremacy. These accusations are not only deeply offensive but also undermine the very principles of respectful civic dialogue. Citizens like Mr. Tate care deeply about our city, its financial priorities, and the preservation of our shared history.

We are at a critical juncture for the future of Toronto. When elected officials resort to disrespecting and insulting honest taxpayers, it becomes clear that a culture of impunity and arrogance has taken root at City Hall.

It may soon be time to mobilize our fellow petitioners—individuals from all walks of life—who are united in their desire to end divisive and costly identity politics and refocus our efforts on building a better city.

Stay tuned for more updates and thank you for all your support.
