Hi Petitioners:
On Feb 22 2024, Councillors Myers, Moise, Saxe and Ainslie OPPOSED a TTC Board motion advanced by Councillor Holyday to commission a historian with expertise in British history and the transatlantic slave trade to ensure all decisions about the renaming of Dundas are done with facts in mind. As well, the councillors opposed a report on how the TTC can get citizen voices involved in the decision on whether and how to rename the subway stations.
To be clear: these councillors actually OPPOSED bringing historians to fact check the original claims and OPPOSED involving taxpayer voices. As a result this sensible motion failed. Josh Matlow wasn't present for the vote.
This is unacceptable.
ALSO: Today, Ghana's Parliament passed an anti-homosexuality bill with jail terms attached. The Ghanian word "Sankofa" is what is being proposed to replace Dundas Sq. The absurdity continues at City Hall.
We need to keep up the pressure on City Council - especially Chris Moise, Dianne Saxe, Jamaal Myers and Olivia Chow. Please email them and let them know that moving forward with "Sankofa Square" and renaming anything Dundas is an embarrassing mistake. Here are their emails:

Renaming anything Dundas is incredibly unpopular. Taxpayers expect you to do the right thing and abandon this foolish pursuit. I am disappointed at the decisions today by the TTC board. The city does not want Sankofa Square nor do we want anything with the name Dundas renamed. Reverse course now.
