Stop the removal of street dogs in Didim, Turkey
Kampanya metni
For over a decade, CoDA Care of Didim Animals, a registered animal charity in Didim, Aydın, Turkey, has worked tirelessly to support the local community in caring for the area's street dogs. This effort includes feeding, castrating, and ensuring the health and safety of these dogs, which have become an integral part of the social and cultural fabric of Didim. We believe in a compassionate approach that respects both human and animal life, cultivating a harmonious coexistence between residents and street dogs.
However, the Turkish Government's recent decision to remove all street dogs from Didim endangers everything we have worked for over the past 10 years. This measure not only disrupts the community but also neglects the humane treatment that these animals deserve. Statistics show that removal does not solve the problem long-term but instead leads to an increase in stray dog populations in neighboring areas as well as the formation of new packs over time.
Comprehensive studies highlight that managed, local care programs are far more effective. According to the World Animal Protection organization, community-based programs that focus on sterilization, health checks, and vaccines are markedly successful in controlling street dog populations in an ethical manner. Our program is specifically designed to offer these solutions and has seen positive results within Didim, showcased by a steady population and decreasing health issues among the street and owned dog community.
Our appeal is to the Turkish government to rethink and revoke this decision, opting instead for a humane and effective strategy modeled on successful community-led programs. We propose establishing a collaborative task force involving local animal care groups, government representatives, and international animal welfare organizations to create a sustainable and compassionate plan of action.
We urge you, the public and supporters of animal welfare, to help us persuade the authorities by signing this petition. With your signature, we can demonstrate the collective voice of those advocating for a more humane and effective approach to managing street dogs in Didim. Let us continue to foster a community where both humans and dogs can live in harmony. Please sign and share this petition today!
