Toni Ray took over a colony of feral cats at Springfield Family Physicians doctors office about a year ago. When she first started trapping, there were 18 adult cats and 12 kittens ranging from stray friendlies to completely feral. She trapped and fixed and rehomed all the friendly adults and kittens and trapped and fixed, vaccinated and returned 10 adult feral cats. The colony has had no issues and the caregiver makes sure to clean up after the cats and clean the parking lot. The location has many homeless people who tend to leave messes as they rummage through the dumpsters and Toni often cleans up after them as well. On December 15 2016, Toni received a phone call from the office manager "Autumn" who said that all the shelters and feeding stations must be removed by nightfall or they will destroy them. Later in the afternoon the shelters had indeed been moved to the curb. Right now in Oregon we are experiencing a cold snap with temperatures ranging at night in the low 20's which is 15-20 degrees lower than average. Even with being confronted and told the fact that the cats will freeze, the office manager said "well, that's the just the reality of the situation".  A post was made of which many saw and many phone calls were made during the day but the shelters were still brought to the curb. Media has been contacted and a humane solution needs to come of this. The cats have no place to go and cannot be moved quickly or move to a location nearby. Please reconsider your removal of these cats. The cats do no harm to your property and in fact keep rodents at bay especially with messy dumpsters nearby. Please come to an agreement with Toni and give these cats a safe place to live. Do the right thing and don't freeze and starve these cats. It's not their fault that people are irresponsible and dump unfixed pets to breed and create feral colonies.
