Stop the removal of campus cats
The Issue
For many the campus cats bring comfort for students who are homesick, stressed during exams, or going through difficult times. They provide emotional support by being there when we need it most.
Unfortunately, there has been some discussions about removing the cats from campus. While we understand and appreciate the university's responsibilities to maintain a safe campus, we believe there is a compassionate path forward. That path involves discussing a plan that respects the affection and care students and staff have given to these animals while keeping university grounds safe.
Other schools have successfully managed cat populations. Universities like UTampa, and many more have implemented Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs to manage their campus cats, something we already do, and other organized methods to ensure cats are vaccinated, fed, healthy, and adopted.
We urge the administration to first meet with Kitty Care members and consider our proposal before making any irreversible decisions. We want to share compassion to animals in our community that need our help and we are happy to give it.
Please sign this petition and join our call to protect our campus cats. Together, we can be their voice and reach an agreement where everyone is safe and cared for.
