Stop the relocation of Trivandrum museum and zoo
The Issue
Growing up in Trivandrum, the museum and zoo have been integral parts of my life. They're not just historical and cultural icons; they're the heart of the city's heritage and greenery. The thought of moving them to a remote location erases our shared memories and deprives future generations of visitation opportunities.
The existing location is ideal, nestled within the green lungs of the old city. This central site is accessible to all, hosting a unique blend of history, nature, and community spirit right in the heart of Trivandrum. Relocating these beloved institutions would not only detract from their accessibility but also threaten the ecological balance they help maintain.
Trivandrum is expanding along the NH Bypass Kazhakuttam stretch. However, shifting the museum and zoo to these distant outskirts would be a grave mistake. It would destroy a significant part of the city's identity and could lead to the degradation of the beautiful green space that locals and tourists alike cherish.
Consider the disruption this move would cause: families who visit regularly, local businesses thriving due to nearby tourist activity, and the educational opportunities provided by these institutions to schools and colleges. The green canopy offers residents a much-needed respite from urban life. Furthermore, the biodiversity of the zoo contributes to environmental stability and awareness about conservation among citizens.
Instead of relocating, we should focus on enhancing the current facilities, improving infrastructure, and integrating educational programs that draw more visitors and elevate environmental appreciation. Keeping the museum and zoo where they are celebrates our past while facing the future with sustainable urban growth.
Please join me in urging the government of Kerala and Trivandrum's municipal authorities to preserve these cherished institutions in their historic location. Sign this petition to protect our heritage, promote accessible education, and sustain the green lungs of Trivandrum for generations to come.
