Hello Everyone and Happy Friday!

Thank you all again for your support in this endeavor!

I just wanted to send out a quick ask. We are politely asking the public to stop feeding the peacocks. We understand this difficult as this is a way we connect with the birds, however, the unintended consequences when this happens can no longer be ignored. This ask gives me no pleasure, but it is a sacrifice we must make if we hope to keep these beloved birds in the only place they've ever called home.

The park is its own little ecological system. Which is part of its charm. Peacocks are expert foragers, and there is plenty for them to forage on the 17 acres they live. When you see them pecking at the ground, they are actually eating little bugs (their main protein source).

If we are asking the city not to interfere with the peacocks, we need to do the same. Moreover, many of the things they are being fed are actually very unhealthy for them, therefore, it is doing more harm than good.

All parks various animals call home have strict no feeding policies, and though it may seem counterintuitive, it is for the best interest of the animals. Especially considering anyone can walk into the park and up to the peacocks. It would behoove them to be suspicious of humans rather than coming whomever walks up to them. Not everyone has their best interest at heart... The flock is conditioned to approach any and all visitors looking for food. This has the potential to be harmful for them.

I appreciate you all and hope you can understand why we are making this ask. You can continue to marvel in their beauty and watch them interact with each other! We have a better chance of preserving that for future generations if we can make this one small sacrifice.

We have also started a Facebook page where community members can be kept up-to-date with how everything is playing out with the city. Here is that link: FACEBOOK GROUP

Have a safe and beautiful weekend! And thank you so much for your understanding!
