The Issue

Parents, students, and community members of Perryopolis, Pennsylvania, we need your support to stop the proposed relocation of the fifth-grade students from Frazier Elementary School to Frazier Middle School. This abrupt transition not only deprives these young students of their final year in what has become their academic home but also strips them of valuable experiences and opportunities unique to their last year of elementary education.

For many, the transition from elementary school to middle school is a significant milestone that requires careful planning and preparation. It is a time filled with excitement and cherished school traditions that mark the end of one era and the beginning of another. By forcing these young students to relocate prematurely, they are being denied this important rite of passage. This sudden move would rob them of experiences such as school plays, special projects, leadership opportunities, and social events that are integral to their development and help ease the transition to middle school.

Furthermore, the abrupt shift to a new school environment without adequate preparation can be overwhelming and stressful for children. It is vital for their educational and emotional well-being to have a sense of stability and continuity during these formative years. Studies show that significant disruptions during critical school transitions can have a negative impact on students’ academic performance and social development.

Frazier Elementary plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive learning environment tailored to the specific needs of these young learners, and it is unfair to cut their time short. Instead, let us focus on enhancing their remaining time in elementary school with enriching activities and programs that prepare them for their next academic phase.

We urge the Frazier School District to reconsider this decision and explore alternative solutions that maintain the traditional grade configurations. Let us preserve the integrity and spirit of Frazier Elementary by keeping the fifth grade where it belongs – among familiar friends, trusted teachers, and cherished traditions.

Sign this petition to stand with us and support our fifth graders in having a complete and fulfilling final elementary year. Together, we can make a difference.
