STOP the release of brutal double murderer - Scott Alexander McDougall
The issue
STOP the release of a brutal double murderer.
Scott Alexander McDougall butchered Julie Tattersall and Struan Bolas in cold blood, mutilating them with a meat cleaver before setting their home on fire in Downer, 2008.
He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms, one for each murder, and an additional five years for arson. This was among the harshest penalties ever handed down in the ACT.
Justice Gray called McDougall’s crimes “chilling, brutal and callous,” and noted his lack of remorse and the danger he continues to represent.
Now, he’s being considered for transitional release from Canberra’s jail system.
This is not justice. It’s a betrayal.
The Canberra community is outraged. The victims’ families are heartbroken. How can we even begin to explain this to those left behind?
A life sentence should mean a life removed from society, especially for a repeat offender who carried out such unspeakable violence.
We demand the Attorney-General and the justice system listen. This is not just about one case, this is about setting a standard: murderers should not walk free.
Add your voice. Stand with us. Stop the release.
