I live in Vineland, NJ, which is part of the larger South Jersey community. This area has struggled with inadequate infrastructure and an economy that does little to uplift its citizens. For those of us working minimum wage jobs, it's clear that our community's needs are not being met. The bottom line is that a $6 million investment in an AI Data Center won’t address the real issues we’re facing. We need funds directed where they’re truly needed: our schools, our legal systems, and our social services.
Currently, our schools suffer from lack of funding, resulting in outdated textbooks, overcrowded classrooms, and a shortage of qualified teachers. How can we expect our children to compete in a globalized world when their educational resources are so limited? It's a systemic problem that requires immediate attention and adequate funding.
Moreover, our local legal systems are stretched thin, with backlogs that delay justice and public defenders who are overworked and underpaid. This situation hampers our ability to ensure fair legal processes for everyone. If the government truly wishes to support the development of our community, these issues must be prioritized.
In terms of social services, we face countless hurdles. Programs designed to help the unemployed or underemployed are under-resourced and often unable to provide the support needed to help families get back on their feet. Our community would greatly benefit from investments in these essential services rather than funneling $6 million into an AI Data Center, which will not contribute to the well-being of our residents.
