The Issue

As a concerned parent of a child currently attending one of the Pre-K classes at PEARLS Hawthorne School. It has come to our attention the school is intending to reduce the number of Pre-K classes from 3 to 2 in the mid-school year. This decision is profoundly alarming and deeply affects the children's educational experience. Current class sizes already strain resources and reduce each student's opportunity for personalized attention. Further class consolidation would only exacerbate this issue.

Research suggests that smaller class sizes in the early years can greatly boost a child's academic achievement. A study by the Education Endowment Foundation found that small class sizes, particularly for younger children, have a positive impact on educational effectiveness and pupils’ learning. By reducing the number of Pre-K classes, The Yonkers Public Schools is denying our children the optimal education environment they need for a strong academic start.

We understand that there may be several factors influencing this decision. However, we kindly propose that the school district engage with parents and educators to explore other avenues before taking such a drastic step, which primarily affects our children, the future of our society.

We urge the parents of all students, not just those in the Pre-K classes, to join our movement. Tell Yonkers Public Schools District that our children's education should never be compromised. The fight for optimal education starts now. Sign this petition to stop the reduction of Pre-K classes at PEARLS Hawthorne from 3 to 2.
