Petition updateStop the redevelopment of Rankin Gardens in Rokeby Road Subiaco

Thinking about the next steps…

This week, I have been spending time in Rankin Gardens chatting to people about the City of Subiaco’s plans.

Many were people working nearby, some were mothers with babies having a picnic on the lawn under the trees and others were people just wanting some peace and quiet and respite from the heat.

They were all shocked to hear that the City wants to dig up the Gardens and create an outdoor concert venue. Many asked why would they want to destroy this cherished, cool, tranquil place?

One of the biggest concerns about the City’s plans is the loss of trees. At the electors’ meeting on 18 December, the CEO, in responding to my question, said that 18 trees would be removed and 20 would be “relocated”. In other words, 38 trees would go. And that’s before building works commence. How will council staff physically control what the contractors do once they start?

Time is running out so please keep sharing this petition if you can. The public consultation period ends on 27 February but I may need to submit this petition to Council before then. I’m just waiting on advice as to the options available.

In the meantime, thank you all so much for your continuing support.

Have a great week!
