The council’s plans have certainly sparked debate in the community: native plants v exotics. Lawns v concrete paving.

Imagine how hot and ugly this scene would look if all the lawn was replaced with paving and garden beds with native plants. Don’t get me wrong - I’m not against native plants, in the right place. King’s Park is a good place and it is right on our doorstep.

Rankin Gardens is part of Subiaco’s history and heritage. For more than a century, it has provided a cool, green oasis in the heart of Subiaco. 

Some people think that native plants don’t need water, but they do, especially in the first few years when you are trying to get them established. 

Exotic plants and lawns are not evil. They keep things cool. Why would anyone want to destroy this?

Please keep fighting to preserve this precious place.
