Violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights violations worldwide.

Approximately one out of every three women worldwide will be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime.

The International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA) is a landmark bipartisan piece of legislation recently introduced in the U.S. Congress that would create a comprehensive strategy to address violence against women and girls across U.S. foreign assistance programs.

This bill could effectively address the problem of violence against women and girls around the world and will help signify U.S. leadership on this critical issue.

Please write your member of Congress and ask them to co-sponsor IVAWA. Together, we can make our voices heard.

Letter to
U.S. House of Representatives
U.S. Senate
As your constituent, I am writing to strongly urge you to cosponsor the bipartisan International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA), S. 2982 and H.R. 4594.

One in three women worldwide will be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime, with rates reaching 70 percent in some countries. This violence not only leaves women and girls with long-term physical and psychological scars, but it tears apart communities and undermines efforts to reduce global poverty.

The International Violence Against Women Act, (IVAWA), is a landmark piece of legislation recently introduced in the U.S. Congress that would, for the first time, create a comprehensive strategy to address violence against women and girls and integrate prevention and response measures across U.S. foreign assistance programs. IVAWA is an opportunity to effectively address the problem of violence against women and girls around the world and help to signify U.S. leadership on this critical issue.

Despite the recognition of the gravity and scope of violence against women and girls, the global response to it remains woefully inadequate. I urge you to cosponsor IVAWA. The time to act is now.

Thank you for your consideration.
