The Issue

A planning application has been lodged to re open the derelict quarry, Hillend, Airdrie Road, Caldercruix for a quarry and tar processing plant. If permission is granted quarrying will commence for 50 years, hammering, blasting, pecking, crushing. Caldercruix will be polluted by dust and noise. A massive increase in traffic will see approx 120 lorry movements a day transporting stone, tar, and associated muck, imagine the damage to roads and houses. If you have any doubt the damage a quarry can do look to Forrestfield. Who would want to stay near a quarry. Our area will be left barren. There is no good news, all quarrying does is make rich companies richer at our expense and the expense of our children, with no benefits to our communities. The health of our family's is paramount. An Area of beauty will be destroyed forever. Forrest trails around the Lily Loch and Annie's Hill are amongst the best in Central Scotland. Caldercruix is thriving, we have a fine new school, housing developments, rail links to Glasgow and Edinburgh, our village has potential. This will destroy our village.
