Stop the Pyaranagar Dump Yard – Save Narsapur Reserve Forest and Our Future!

The Issue

We, the undersigned, urgently call upon the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Government of Telangana to cancel the proposed dump yard project in Pyaranagar.

This project plans to establish a 150-acre dump yard in the heart of Narsapur Reserve Forest—a biodiverse area that is vital to our environment. Not only will this dump yard destroy a precious natural habitat, but it is also designed as a waste-to-energy plant with a capacity of 48 megawatts, double that of the existing 24-megawatt facility in Jawaharnagar. Despite its promises of energy recovery, the Jawaharnagar plant already subjects nearby residents to severe pollution, unbearable stench, and chronic health problems.

Why We Must Stop This Project:

 1. Environmental Destruction:

 • The dump yard will be set up in the middle of Narsapur Reserve Forest, a sanctuary of biodiversity. Its establishment will irreversibly damage our ecosystem, destroy wildlife habitats, and diminish our natural heritage.

 2. Health Hazards:

 • The increased capacity (48 MW) means significantly more emissions, including toxic gases and particulates (PM2.5, PM10, CO, NOx, SO₂, VOCs, dioxins, and furans).

 • These pollutants cause chronic respiratory diseases, cardiovascular issues, neurological disorders, and increase cancer risks.

 • Residents are likely to face daily exposure to toxins, and the projected spread of the stench (up to a 10 km radius) will further exacerbate health issues.

 • Additionally, the project will encourage a surge in mosquito and housefly populations, leading to increased infections and allergies.

 3. Agricultural and Economic Impact:

 • Our region is already burdened by pollution from over 50 pharmaceutical companies. Adding the dump yard’s emissions will further degrade soil quality and contaminate water supplies, which are essential for agriculture.

 • Crop yields will decline, property values will drop, and our local economy—dependent on agriculture and clean natural resources—will suffer irreparable damage.

 • The project threatens our livelihoods and the future development of our region.

 4. Unintended Consequences:

 • Experiences from Jawaharnagar have shown that “techno-solutions” such as waste-to-energy plants can have serious unintended consequences if proper environmental safeguards are not in place.

 • Despite promises of state-of-the-art technology, the reality is that residents in Jawaharnagar already suffer from the unavoidable stench and pollution, proving that such solutions are not foolproof.

Our Demands:

 • Immediate Cancellation: Stop the establishment of the Pyaranagar dump yard.

 • Environmental Assessment: Conduct a thorough, independent environmental impact assessment and public hearing before any decision is made.

 • Community Engagement: Ensure that the voices of local residents are heard and taken into account.

Our community, our children, and our future depend on your decision. Please join us in demanding that our natural heritage and our well-being be protected. Sign this petition and share it widely so that our message reaches every decision-maker in the GHMC and the Government of Telangana.

Stand with us to stop the Pyaranagar dump yard and safeguard our environment, health, and future!

Thank you for your support.
