Stop the Purported Mass Killing of 3 Million Stray Dogs in Morocco for FIFA 2030

Stop the Purported Mass Killing of 3 Million Stray Dogs in Morocco for FIFA 2030
The Issue
This petition originates from a deep-seated belief that the killing of helpless animals should be avoided. It is alleged that Morocco intends to euthanize 3 million stray dogs in preparation for FIFA 2030. Such an act is both heartbreaking and completely unacceptable.
We understand the country's need to ensure safety and public health for the event - an estimated half a million tourists are predicted to arrive for FIFA 2020 (BBC, 2022). However, the rights of animals should not be compromised. More humane solutions, such as spay/neuter programs, adoption initiatives, and provisions for accommodating these animals in safe shelters should be considered.
Let us remind Morocco and other nations that, as the universal declaration of animal rights states, animals have the right to be respected, and humanity has a moral obligation to respect animals and their rights (UNESCO, 1978).
Ending the lives of millions of stray dogs does not exemplify respect or ethics. We are petitioning for Morocco's authorities to reconsider this drastic and inhumane decision, and to seek more compassionate strategies for dealing with the stray dog population in the light of the FIFA 2030 World Cup.
Join us in protecting these innocent lives. Please sign this petition to send a strong message that animal cruelty is not the answer.
