Stop the Proposed Zoning By-Law Amendment to Allow a Subdivision in Our Neighbourhood

The Issue

Dear Mayor Prue, Deputy Mayor Gibb and Amherstburg Town Council,

An application to amend the current zoning by-law for 639 Front Road North (former Anderdon Tavern site), allowing the construction of a subdivision including a 5-storey, 28-unit condominium, and multiple single and semi-detached homes, is currently being considered by the Town of Amherstburg and will be brought forward to Town Council.

Families in our neighbourhood fear an increase in motor vehicle congestion, accidents, and fatalities (2005, 2008, and 2020), increased pedestrian traffic crossing this 70 km/h road, irreparable environmental damage including further harm to the endangered Eastern Fox Snake, improper water and sewer drainage (2005 White Drain collapse).  This will also set a precedent negatively impacting the heritage of the area.  Other areas of Amherstburg could be next.

We, the undersigned, urge each of you as our elected town officials, to reject this proposed zoning by-law amendment to preserve our neighbourhood.

(This will be considered a public document of the Town of Amherstburg and any information contained herein may be subject to the scrutiny of the municipality and other members of the general public)
