Porter Development is proposing a large Sports Complex on top of the old UNREGULATED DUMPSITE, in Largo, behind the Largo Library and near Central Park. This huge complex will require them to dig up the old UNREGULATED DUMPSITE, and this is dangerous and can cause methane gases and other chemicals to be released into the air, water and ground. HAS THE CITY OF LARGO REALLY STUDIED THE EFFECTS OF DIGGING UP AN OLD DUMP, THAT WAS NOT REGULATED? https://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/HAC/landfill/html/ch3.html
DID THE OWNER WHO GIFTED THE LAND TO THE CITY OF LARGO INTEND FOR THIS TYPE OF PROJECT TO BE BUILT? WE HAVE POSED THE QUESTION TO THE CITY AND THE CITY ATTORNEY. ARE THEY ALLOWED TO ACTUALLY SELL THIS PROPERTY TO A PRIVATE, FOR-PROFIT COMPANY FOR A SPORTS COMPLEX, WITH COMPETITION, ENTERTAINMENT, ALCOHOL, WEDDINGS, NOISE, A GIANT LAGOON WITH MUSIC PIPING ALL DAY LONG, TRAFFIC SNARLS, AND ENCROACHMENT ON THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS? IT IS A LEGITIMATE QUESTION THAT NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED!
FROM THE QUIT CLAIM DEED, THIRD PARAGRAPH DOWN, IT STATES "The lands shall be used for general public recreational purposes and/or used in connection with the CITY'S Renaissance Festival, or for any similar use deemed appropriate by the City; however, such recreational uses shall not include hunting, firing ranges, rehabilitation camps, sports stadiums, arenas or commercial amusement parks."
WE ALREADY HAVE A WONDERFUL WEDDING VENUE AT THE CENTRAL PARK PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, RIGHT NEXT TO THE PROPOSED COMPLEX (which will also have a wedding venue)! WEDDINGS ARE A MAJOR PART OF THE CPPAC'S BUSINESS. IT IS HARD TO IMAGINE HOW MUCH THIS WILL AFFECT THE CPPAC'S BOTTOM LINE, AND HOW BAD THE TRAFFIC WILL BE WHEN THERE ARE TWO ON THE SAME DAY....OR MORE!

POLITICS! POLITICIANS PUTTING THEIR IDEAS INTO PEOPLE'S HEADS BEFORE PEOPLE KNOW THE WHOLE STORY - TYPICAL.
There are hundreds of people living all around this property including the Lincolnshire Mobile Home park, New Haven Condos, and two other condo and townhouse neighborhoods off of Lake Avenue and Donegan road. There is a middle school nearby, railroad tracks, and Donegan road is a dangerous, two lane curvy road where many people travel and cut through off of Ulmerton Rd.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THE AVERAGE POPULATION DENSITY OF A METROPOLITAN AREA IS 283 PEOPLE PER SQUARE MILE? IN LARGO, THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 84,000 PEOPLE WITHIN AN 18.5 SQUARE MILE RADIUS WHICH EQUATES TO APPX 4,540 PEOPLE PER SQUARE MILE! DON'T YOU THINK WE ARE CROWDED ENOUGH? THIS DEVELOPMENT WILL NOT MAKE LARGO A SAFER CITY, A MORE PROSPEROUS POPULATION, HELP STRUGGLING FAMILIES, DECREASE HOMELESSNESS OR RAISE THE MEDIAN INCOME.

THEY WANT TO MAKE HIGHLAND AVE SE FULLY OPEN, so the two main entrances will be off of East Bay Drive and Highland Avenue S.E. Highland Ave SE has no sidewalks, a drainage ditch on one side, private property on the other side and condos RIGHT off the road. There are many homes along 8th Avenue SE who will also be affected. They also want to make an entrance on the dangerous curve where 8th avenue SE meets Donegan Road. The developer has recently made a change to one of the entrances and now there are only three entrances planned which will increase the traffic going into and out of the other remaining planned entrances.

TAKE A LOOK AT THE TOP TEN GREENEST CITIES IN FLORIDA!! WE COULD BE ON THAT LIST TOO IF WE REALLY MADE AN EFFORT! DEVELOPERS ARE NOT ALL BAD BUT THEY DO COUNT ON PEOPLE NOT PAYING ATTENTION SO THEY CAN MOVE FORWARD WITH THEIR PROJECTS. EVERYONE SHOULD ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR CITY AND WHAT GOES ON BECAUSE YOU WILL BE BLIND SIDED IF YOU DON'T!

Please sign this petition to stop the process. This will be a referendum on the November ballot and please vote NO if it makes it but PLEASE sign this petition and pass it to everyone you know who cares about our city. We have three recreation centers. This will create a traffic nightmare and cause more accidents and a much more dangerous place to travel as if it isn't dangerous enough out there on the roads. The land could be used as part of the parks and a green space! We need to keep our green spaces and not put more stress on this city.
