Stop the Proposed Rock Quarry on Joy Road – Protect Our Families, Homes, and Community

Petition to Local and State Officials

We, the undersigned residents and supporters, strongly oppose the proposed rock quarry on Joy Road. This project threatens the health, safety, environment, and quality of life of everyone who calls this community home.

For many of us, this isn’t just another road—it’s home. My family has lived on Joy Road for five generations. We have invested our lives here, raised our children here, and worked to preserve the rural character of this area for future generations. A rock quarry would permanently change that legacy.

Why We Oppose the Quarry

Protect Our Families’ Health
Rock quarries generate large amounts of dust containing fine particles that can affect air quality and contribute to respiratory problems, especially for children, older adults, and those with existing health conditions.

Keep Our Roads Safe
The quarry would bring a significant increase in heavy truck traffic on roads that were never designed for constant industrial use. This creates safety risks for school buses, local drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians while increasing road wear and taxpayer costs.

Preserve Our Water and Environment
Blasting and excavation can affect groundwater, streams, wildlife habitats, and the natural beauty that makes our community special. Once these resources are damaged, they may never fully recover.

Protect Property Values
Industrial quarry operations can reduce nearby property values, making it harder for families to sell their homes or protect the investments they have made over decades.

Noise, Blasting, and Quality of Life
Daily blasting, heavy machinery, truck traffic, and constant noise would disrupt the peaceful rural environment that residents chose when they made Joy Road their home.

Our Community Deserves Better

The people who live on Joy Road and in the surrounding area deserve to have their voices heard before an industrial operation is placed in the middle of their community. We believe growth and economic development should not come at the expense of the health, safety, and well-being of local families.

We respectfully ask local elected officials, county leaders, state regulators, and permitting agencies to:

Deny any permits or approvals for the proposed rock quarry on Joy Road.
Require a comprehensive, independent environmental impact study.
Hold public meetings where residents can fully participate before any decisions are made.
Protect the homes, families, farmland, and natural resources that define our community.
Our community is worth protecting. Joy Road is more than a location on a map—it is our home, our history, and our future.
