Stop the Proposed Park on Partridge Walk in Lancaster NY

The Issue

The Town of Lancaster is proposing a 6 acre public park on Partridge Walk.  This area is landlocked by 38 homes on Partridge Walk, Hidden Meadow and Aurora Street.   Natural greenspace - and residents' backyards - would be disturbed to pave two access roads and a basketball court.

This greenspace is home to various animals such as deer, foxes, rabbits and squirrels, as well as partly a natural wetland.  Not only would it disturb their natural habitat, but it would eliminate the privacy of 38 residential homes.

A proposed access road would exit between 38 and 40 Partridge Walk.  This narrow strip of land is between two current residents and would require numerous trees and shrubs to be removed.  Exiting a proposed park on Partridge Walk would significantly increase traffic in a neighborhood that has already experienced a three fold increase due to the new development.

The second access road would exit between 631 and 637 Aurora Street.  This busy, narrow, street without sidewalks, would risk the safety of the children and adults walking to the park.  It would also add to an already congested street.

The park would not be large enough for a parking lot resulting in overflow on Partridge Walk which already is crowded by residential use.

Parks are important to all communities but not at the cost of disrupting a small greenspace which has thrived throughout the significant development of this Lancaster neighborhood.
