South Africa does not need a new name!!!

Parliament is considering a proposal to rename our country from South Africa to Azania, claiming the current name is colonial and does not reflect our African identity.

We, the undersigned, reject this proposal for the following reasons:

✅ “South Africa” is a neutral, geographic name recognized globally and holds over a century of international identity.

✅ The term “Azania” is not widely understood or supported by the majority of South Africans. It risks dividing our people rather than uniting them.

✅ The cost of changing our country’s name will be astronomical, potentially running into billions of rands. While South Africans face far more urgent issues like poverty, unemployment, and load shedding.

✅ This proposal was not made through public referendum or widespread consultation. It is being pushed forward by a political minority.

🇿🇦 We are the Rainbow Nation! A country built on unity, reconciliation, and diversity. We have come a long way from our painful past, and we should not allow divisive political gestures to pull us apart.

✌️ South Africans want to live in peace, with dignity, under a name that already belongs to all of us.

Keep the name. Fix the country. Let the Rainbow Nation shine.
