STOP The Proposed Landfill In Our Community!!!!
The Issue
Our homes, our neighbors, and our community are under threat. I live in this neighborhood, along with many other families, including young children, who have recently learned about a proposed landfill project. It has already gone through most of the steps needed for approval, with a critical vote among commissioners scheduled for June 4th.
This landfill proposal has moved forward without proper notification or involvement of the community and surrounding areas. This lack of transparency and inclusive decision-making poses a significant risk to our environment and quality of life. Alarmingly, the proposed site for the landfill is in a flood plain, which heightens the grave risk of water contamination. Our local waterways, the lifeblood of the community, are at stake if this plan goes through.
Furthermore, the construction and operation of the landfill would likely wreak havoc on our already sensitive infrastructure, deteriorating roadways that were not designed for the burden of such heavy operations. This would not only increase traffic congestion but also increase wear and tear on roads, affecting our daily commute and safety.
Additionally, the presence of a landfill poses significant health hazards. It can affect the air we breathe, potentially leading to respiratory issues or worse. Our children, playing in their backyards or walking to school, would be exposed to these risks every day. As a community, we cannot stand by and allow this threat to our health to materialize.
Finally, the economic implications cannot be ignored. Property values in the vicinity of a landfill are likely to depreciate, which can have long-standing impacts on the finances and investments of community members who have worked hard to build their homes here.
We urge the commissioners to reconsider this project and look for alternative locations or solutions that do not pit economic development against the wellbeing and quality of life of local families. We deserve a safe, healthy, and clean environment to raise our children and continue to thrive as a cohesive neighborhood.
Please join us in opposing this landfill. Stand with the community and ensure our voices are heard in the upcoming vote. Sign this petition to protect our homes, our health, and our future.
