Stop the proposed Highway 37 tolls
The Issue
STOP THE PROPOSED HIGHWAY 37 TOLLS!
Protect Vallejo Residents, Working Families, and North Bay Commuters
We Oppose Tolling Highway 37 Between Mare Island and Sears Point, California
Our Petition to Stop the Proposed Highway 37 Toll Lanes
We, the undersigned residents, commuters, workers, and concerned community members of Vallejo and the surrounding North Bay communities, strongly oppose the proposed toll lanes on State Route 37.
Highway 37 is an important transportation route used by thousands of people traveling to work, school, medical appointments, and essential services. Adding tolls could place another financial burden on families who already struggle with the rising cost of living.
We should not have to pay more simply to get to work and take care of our families.
Many people depend on Highway 37 because they have no reasonable alternative route. We are concerned that tolls could disproportionately affect working-class families, lower-income residents, essential workers, and people who must commute every day.
We believe transportation improvements should be planned fairly, with meaningful public participation and careful consideration of the financial impact on ordinary people.
WHAT WE ARE DEMANDING
We respectfully call on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), the Bay Area Infrastructure Financing Authority (BAIFA), Caltrans, the California Transportation Commission, and all other agencies with authority over this proposal to:
1. REJECT THE PROPOSED HIGHWAY 37 TOLLS.
We ask decision-makers to pursue transportation improvements and funding alternatives that do not impose new toll charges on ordinary drivers using Highway 37.
2. PAUSE FURTHER TOLL IMPLEMENTATION DECISIONS.
We request a pause while the agencies clearly explain the proposal, disclose the relevant approvals and funding plans, and provide the public with a meaningful opportunity to be heard.
3. PROTECT WORKING FAMILIES AND DAILY COMMUTERS.
We ask officials to fully consider the financial burden tolls could place on Vallejo residents, lower-income households, workers, seniors, and people who depend on this highway.
4. PROVIDE TRANSPARENCY AND PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY.
We demand clear public information about proposed toll rates, exemptions and discounts, project costs, funding sources, environmental impacts, and the alternatives considered.
5. LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO USE HIGHWAY 37.
We call for accessible public meetings, transparent decision-making, and meaningful consideration of community objections before further decisions are made.
6. EXPLORE FAIRER ALTERNATIVES.
We urge officials to investigate other funding sources and practical transportation solutions that improve safety, reduce congestion, protect the environment, and avoid placing additional financial pressure on commuters.
OUR MESSAGE TO GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS
The people who live and work in our communities deserve to have a voice in decisions that affect their daily lives and household budgets.
We understand that transportation improvements may be necessary. However, we do not believe that tolling is the only possible solution, and we oppose moving forward without fully considering the consequences for the public.
We ask our elected representatives to stand with their constituents, formally communicate their opposition to the proposed tolls, and work with the responsible agencies to identify better alternatives.
Our roads serve our communities. Our voices deserve to be heard. Our families deserve affordable transportation.
SIGN THIS PETITION
By signing, I express my opposition to the proposed Highway 37 toll lanes and ask the responsible public agencies and elected officials to reject the proposed tolls and pursue fairer alternatives.
Please share this petition with your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and fellow Highway 37 commuters.
Together, we can make our concerns heard.
This is a public advocacy petition requesting government action. It is not an official ballot initiative, a court order, or a legally binding vote.
