Stop the Proposed High Voltage Power Line Construction in Altavista/Lynch Station, VA

Stop the Proposed High Voltage Power Line Construction in Altavista/Lynch Station, VA

The Issue

Our community is under threat from the proposed high voltage power line that APCO wants to construct in the prime real estate of the Altavista/Lynch Station area. This battle is not personal– it is the future of our picturesque rural community that is at stake. The proposed project will not only put the lives of our families in danger due to associated health risks caused by high voltage power lines, but it will also ruin the aesthetic appeal of our area. It won't stop there. The presence of these unsightly power lines would most definitely halt the construction of new homes in some of Altavista and Lynch Station's most desirable neighborhoods, thus stunting the growth and vibrancy of our community.

Why would APCO even consider a project of this magnitude to destroy existing neighborhoods like option 19 does, that would place huge high voltage lines through the middle of three long established subdivisions, when other options and more remote routes are possible with less destruction to the sanctity of our wonderful community?

Furthermore, a drop in home prices due to the proximity of the power line would financially cause huge financial loss to current homeowners, undermining investments and hard work put in over the years and plans already made for the future. This downward spiral can lead to as much as 20-30% loss in property value according to a study by PSE Health Energy Institute at the University of California. Some sources put that loss as high as 40%. This adds insult to injury for homeowners already concerned about their family’s health and wellbeing.

Therefore, we implore APCO to reconsider the plans for the proposed power line construction and seek an alternative solution that will protect the interests of our Altavista/Lynch Station community. A balance must be struck between progress and the preservation of communities.
