The Issue

Currently, our neighborhood already has multiple gas stations within a short distance. Adding another would not only feel redundant, but would also take away the opportunity for this space to contribute more meaningfully to our community. Instead of yet another gas station, imagine the possibilities...a community park, potentially with a pool, or a space for food trucks that could support local businesses and create a place for neighbors to gather and connect.

The establishment of another gas station could also exacerbate existing traffic conditions and increase pollution levels, affecting the air quality and safety of our pedestrians, especially children and elderly residents who frequently use the nearby sidewalks. A study by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) indicated that areas surrounding gas stations often have higher air pollutant concentrations, which could lead to long-term health issues for those living in close proximity.

This is not just about preserving the aesthetic of Wickersham Lane; it’s about making a conscientious decision for our future. We have an opportunity to voice our opinions and shape our community's landscape in a way that reflects our shared values and priorities. Let's choose to invest in projects that enhance our sense of belonging and improve the quality of life for all Riverside residents.
