We, the residents of West Norwood, oppose Lambeth Council’s proposed Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ). There is no evidence to support a CPZ in our area, which is thriving. This proposal risks harming our local small businesses by reducing customer access, limiting parking for staff and deliveries, and discouraging passing trade. Many residents have not received proper consultation, and the proposal lacks clear justification or community support.
The proposed CPZ would place an unnecessary financial burden on residents, many of whom are already facing rising living costs and cannot afford additional yearly permit fees just to park near their homes.
It will also simply displace cars onto nearby boundary roads, making it much harder - if not impossible - for residents on those roads to park. Despite claims to the contrary, the CPZ does not appear to be a genuinely green initiative - it feels more like a revenue-raising exercise than a meaningful environmental solution. We therefore call on Lambeth Council to abandon the proposed scheme in full.
