My mother, a resident at the Grange Care Home in Eckington, has found a second family among its dedicated staff and fellow residents. After two temporary stays for rehabilitation following falls, she made the conscious decision to give up her own home for the safety and community that Grange provides. Now, Derbyshire County Council threatens to take this choice away from her - and from many others like her.

The council proposes to close between 9 and 11 care homes across Derbyshire as part of severe cuts to services. A public consultation is set to begin on May 15th, lasting for 12 weeks. Among these homes is Grange Care Home - an institution known for its excellent care in a homely environment.

This isn't just about numbers or budgets; it's about people's lives. The residents at these homes have chosen them as their safe havens after giving up their own houses. They deserve better than being displaced due to mismanagement and budget cuts.
