The Issue

With the recent fire at Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility in California, Otay Mesa, Escondido and around the world, it is obvious that a battery storage facility at 8135 El Paso Street is not a good idea. This facility would be in a very small area, close to a school, a gas station, post office, a couple old-folks facilities, and right across from a transformer station. Residential neighborhoods only a few feet away. There is no way there can be 100 feet defensible space and 10 feet between containers, as San Diego City Council has required.  A battery fire would shut down the local businesses, evacuate elderly, residents and schools for days.  We are in a high fire area. Homeowners insurance rates have risen, insurance has been canceled.  What will happen when we live too close to a battery storage facility? LFP is a type of lithium-ion chemistry. They are not immune to fires and the fires are serious with a high concentrations of flammable hydrogen fluoride gas.
