The Descendants franchise started off as a series that brought magic into our homes, captivating audiences with the tale of second chances for fairy tale villains' kids. But with the recent announcements of Descendants 4 and 5, I feel that Disney is set to undermine the wonderful legacy created by the first three films. Disney's decisions to continue the series risk destroying the iconic reputation the initial movies established, turning a cherished story into a repetitive and misguided saga.

The original Descendants movies taught children valuable lessons about redemption, friendship, and courage, showing that even those who come from a troubled past can choose to do good. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, the forthcoming sequels appear to deviate significantly from these core messages, perhaps providing more confusion than clarity about right and wrong. The fear is that, rather than teaching kids right from wrong, these sequels might convey a sense of wrong from wrong, leaving them with distorted moral lessons.

This concern isn't just about nostalgia or being overly attached to the first films; it's about ensuring that what we allow our children to watch helps in their moral and ethical upbringing. Kids deserve stories that enrich their understanding of good versus evil, stories that help build their character and not erode it.

Instead of expanding the series into unwarranted territories, Disney could channel their creativity into producing new and engaging content that respects their young audience's intelligence and emotional needs. They could develop new, original stories that are relevant and enlightening for children today, restoring faith in their content quality.
