Good afternoon everyone,
I wanted to post an update letting everyone know what the current situation is. As of right now, the crossing guards have been told that the HPPD is no longer looking to privatize the crossing guards. This is great news and is due to all of the community support that the crossing guards received. Thank you again for all of your support.
However, the Borough Administrator, Mayor and Borough Council have stated at previous council meetings that they will continue to look into privatization and shared services agreements for the benefit of the town. One of the 2025 goals is for the Borough Administrator to look into shared services agreements in areas of personnel, equipment purchases, repair and maintenance (see resolution #1-25-08, #6, from the January 7, 2025 Reorganization meeting). While this is vaguely worded, I would encourage everyone to keep up-to-date on what is happening at Borough Council meetings by reviewing the agenda for each meeting and attending each meeting if you can.
The agendas for Borough Council meetings are posted in print at Borough Hall and can be found online here: https://www.hpboro.com/government/mayor-borough-council/borough-council-meetings/-folder-1050
Borough Council meetings can be attended in-person or via Zoom and both in-person and Zoom attendees can make public comments during the public comment portions of each meeting. The scheduled Borough Council meeting dates can be found here: https://www.hpboro.com/home/showpublisheddocument/5175/638718485014600000
Thank you so much for all of your support, everyone. This partial victory could not be possible without the support and love of the Highland Park community. If there are any more updates about the situation in the future, I will continue to post them here.
Take care and stay safe!
