Good afternoon everyone!
I wanted to give an update about the situation. Currently privatization of the Highland Park crossing guards is still being considered by the Mayor, Boro Council, Boro Administrator and the Police Department. There have been no formal resolutions brought forth to the Council for a vote yet. However at the November 12, 2024 Boro Council meeting, there was a resolution #11-24-262 that was introduced, voted on and passed in that session for a shared services agreement with Cranford Police Dept for goods and services. The goods and services for the shared services agreement were not specified in the resolution. During comments, a resident asked what goods and services this was specifically for and if this was a way to outsource the crossing guards to the Cranford Police Dept. The Mayor and the Boro Administrator's response was that the shared services agreement was only for cooperative pricing on hybrid vechicles for the police department at this time although they would be open to whatever other services might be offered at a later time. I strongly encourage everyone to attend Borough Council meetings either in-person or via Zoom to keep up to date on the many resolutions and ordinances being introduced, voted on and passed that affect day to day living in our town. The crossing guards will continue to attend every Boro Council meeting as well. Remember you can publicly comment on these resolutions and ordinances at the Boro Council meetings whether you attend in-person or via Zoom. There is also a public comment period at the end of every Boro Council meeting for any topic that you may have questions about that was not discussed in the meeting. This last public comment period is a great time to ask where they stand on the issue of privatization of the crossing guards as well as voicing your support of our current local crossing guard team. The next Boro Council meeting is on December 10, 2024 at 7pm.
Thank you all for your support!
