The government thinks we're goldfish.
They think we can't hold more than one scandal in our heads in any given time. They rely on the heat of social media and 24 hour news cycles to move us along, move us along, move us along.
The latest: Rwanda.
Usefully deflects the heat from Partygate.
Seriously, it's depressing.
We can hold all of the ways criminality, lack of integrity, dishonesty and the erosion of democratic practices and institutions is becoming daily. It's all a pattern. It's all connected. It's how the current government operate. As Maya Angelou once said 'if someone shows you who they are, believe them.'
But is this what we want to be?
We see it with shameful pass the buck throughout the Grenfell inquiry. We see it with Covid deals for mates - and the subsequent obscene waste amounting to billions (and this at a time when cost of living is spiralling.) We see it with the erosion of Rule of Law. We see it with lying in Parliament. We see it with changing the Ministerial Code whilst our current PM is under investigation from breaching the Ministerial Code. We see it with the erosion of legislation to protect against the violation of human rights.
Ploughing ahead with the privatisation of Channel 4 - despite 96% of respondents to the government's own consultation paper being against it - is undemocratic and autocratic behaviour.
And it is entirely in keeping with the pattern that is everywhere, every day evident.
Please keep signing and sharing.
We're not forgetting.
