Channel 4 News is one of the few news outlets to consistently hold power to account - one of the few news sources that is trusted and considered impartial in its reporting. 

It's the news programme I routinely tune into - along with millions of others.

If the independence of news journalism is suppressed then this has serious consequences for the health of our democracy.

The privatisation of Channel 4 - which David Attenborough views as part of a campaign of “short-sighted political and financial attacks” on UK TV - will undermine the culture of impartiality, integrity, honesty and dedication to thorough and truthful reporting.

'When asked directly if Channel 4 could be privatised before the end of this parliament, Dowden answered:

“We have not ruled that out, no.”
