David Attenborough - once polled as the most trusted man in Britain, and one of the most beloved people in broadcasting history - has warned that the government is pursuing “short-sighted political and financial attacks” on the UK’s television networks.

At a time when we are all struggling and confused in a sea of disinformation, we need to all step up to protect the independence of Channel 4.

Once this decision is made (which looks to be soon - the Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden is due to reveal plans next Wednesday) the loss will be in danger of being irreversible.

It's crucial we build support as a matter of urgency.
