Stop the practice of fines and have the city clear our sidewalks of snow!

The Issue

Do you struggle to get through this city as a pedestrian? Get a few feet of cleared snow in front of one house, only to deal with uncleared snow for the next 2 to 3 houses? What about the randomness of salt on the sidewalks? Slippery one place, clear down to the pavement the next. The city clears the roadways, leaving sometimes 2 foot tall snowbanks blocking the sidewalk from the intersection! This is a major danger to our elderly community and our youth! This is a major issue for people with strollers, or wagons! This is a major issue for anyone with mobility issues.

The city should be responsible for clearing snow, instead they claim it would "raise property taxes" does snow removal not fall under the category of "city maintenence"? If the city clears all sidewalks, we would have more consistency when walking somewhere. If the city does the clearing, we'd have salted sidewalks and less icy patches. If the city does the snow removal, they will be able to clear those buildups at the crosswalks that no one can clear! If the city clears the sidewalks, we won't have to rely on individuals to ensure the public has a safe mode of travel.

This city needs to take better care of its pedestrian citizens, and clear these sidewalks throughout the city. This isn't a cost issue, and we shouldn't allow them to make it so! This issue is a safety issue for the public. We deserve a safe means of travel through this city, and it is time for change!
