Stop the Politically Charged Prosecution of Texas Midwife Maria Rojas

Stop the Politically Charged Prosecution of Texas Midwife Maria Rojas
The Issue
Maria Rojas has spent her career helping underserved women get the care they need. Now, this licensed midwife is facing criminal charges under Texas’ abortion ban—despite no indictment, no medical misconduct ruling, and what her lawyers call a deeply flawed investigation.
In March 2025, Rojas was arrested after the Texas Attorney General’s office alleged she provided illegal abortions. But court records and testimony paint a very different picture: a respected provider running clinics focused on maternal health, operating legally under her midwife license. The state’s case, her lawyers argue, is built on conjecture, not evidence—and so far, they haven’t filed formal charges.
Instead of protecting patients, Texas is targeting a Latina healthcare provider and forcing her clinics to shut down, leaving communities without vital care. This prosecution isn’t about public safety. It’s political.
We call on Waller County District Attorney Sean Whittmore and Attorney General Ken Paxton to drop the charges unless they can present real, verifiable evidence of wrongdoing. Maria Rojas—and the women she serves—deserve better.
Stand up for medical fairness, reproductive justice, and due process. Demand an end to this politically motivated prosecution now.
