Stop The Policy-- Let us communicate to our parents & our kids!
The Issue
Who is impacted? All of us are impacted, weather it's direct or indirect, we are still impacted. Weather we're parents worrying about our kids & why they don't respond to your messages, or a kid who's unable to text your parents that your ok & safe.
What if I don't do anything? If you decide to keep things how it is, you would be cutting off communication with your parents/children for hours, which would be detrimental if something horrific happened (like a school shooting, burning building, medical emergency the parent/child has).
Why is now the time to call for action? We need to voice our thoughts on schools forcibly taking away our communication and our property, which may not seem like much, but it can be crucial to make sure your kids are ok and safe. For example: Park High School was placed in a hold on Friday September 6th because of a rumor going around that a kid had a weapon in his backpack. Luckily that turned out to be false, but since students were held in classrooms for around 2 and a half hours and lots of cop cars were at the school, parents were obviously worried about their kids safety. Some teachers had common sense to let the kids tell their parents that they're ok, while other teachers took great pride that they downright refused kids to tell their parents that they're safe when they fully knew that they were worried. I want you to imagine yourself as the parent in this situation. How would you feel knowing that your kid's teacher, you know, someone your'e supposed to trust, was preventing them from telling you they're safe when there was a gun threat in the building? Would you feel angry that your child's teacher refused to let you communicate with them? That's why we need to make it known that we don't support that. We need our voices to be heard. We need to be the change.
